8000 HD can't find my USB Hard Drive

I just got the 8000 HD and I've been having a lot of problems getting it to recognize my Seagate Baracuda 500 gig HD. I formatted the drive to FAT32 using a PC. I've tried just about everything including booting the 8000 while pressing the menu button. I keep getting a message like 'no USB device found'.

After formating in the PC computer to Fat32, my dealer told me that I need to format it in the HD8000. Is that true? Of course when I try to do that I also get 'no USB device found'. The manual says very little about the USB HD feature.

On my machine the front usb connection seems to be very loose. I'm wondering if it's a defective connection. If I can't resolve this I'll be taking it back for a refund.

Another question: When I bought this as a PVR, I assumed that it would allow me to select a program from the guide that would play at some future time and then automatically record that (as other PVRs do). But now I'm thinking that you have to be there to press play and then stop. Is that correct? Of course I haven't been able to check that out yet because of the above problem. If that's not the case, is there another PVR machine that would do that? Or is there one being planned?

Since I posted this about a week ago, I'm glad to say I was able to get a Western Digital HD (500g MyBook) to work on the Sonicview HD8000. And the PVR works very well.

I'm now very impressed with this receiver and the quick response from Sonicview to my questions.
