Exclamation NEW! B3V Swap in progress

c/p from viewsat spokesman, Cyphris:

"BEV Card Swap on the Way !!!
Yes it's true, As was anticipated in 2008 that the providers will be looking at doing a card swap the first signs are here... on BEV ch.263 they have added the SWAP channel for instructions to subs on how to go about the swap. The new card they are going with is the S06. They have also released 2 new HD receivers the 6141 and 9242 which are 8psk ready. They have already tried sending out new FIRMWARE to some of their subs IRDs yesterday which in turn caused many subs IRDs to reboot constantly. Many new changes to come and will have to see how things transpire. There is still long life in FTA and VS is on top of it all."

AND

c/p from another viewsat frontman,TDG

"Soon is a relative term..
The new FIRMWARE BEV sent down has been playing hell on sub'd receivers, causing reboots, black screens etc. Many of the older units will have to be replaced to accept the new S06 card BEV is planning to use. This will not be a quick process, even with only 2 million subs, there's just too many receivers, as well as cards to replace. Don't expect Dishnet to follow immediately either. They will eventually replace their smart cards, but we're still talking quite a ways off yet. Simply doing the math will shed some light on a card swap. If dish has 10 million subs that they need to get new cards out to, take 10 mil and divide by 365 days (1yr) and you will see that 27,397 cards need to be sent out, every single day (including weekends, holidays etc.)! So, there's no need for panic, we all knew a card swap was imminent, just not yet..

FYI, The new bins ARE running a limited emu and it's working (obviously). Dynamic hashes require more than a simple patch (else all other units would be up), and we're seeing some very spirited competition by the coders from all the boxes that are up. GOOD JOB!

Only boxes running some sort of emu will survive, others will be relegated back to true FTA purposes. There's no patch for dynamic code.

These few are showing they have the tenacity, & know how to stay in the game. Kudo's to ALL the Teams for a job well done!

Remember, I said "it would be a bumpy ride", and "we'd soon see who has the juice to stay up".. Guess what? We're seeing it now!

It's still "Far from Over"
