Notes About Diseqc Switches
About Diseqc Switches ...
First be sure to power off the unit from the back before connecting or disconnecting cables. If the center conductor touches metal, it will burn up the switch.
Port 1 is the default port, it will work even if the other 3 ports are burned up. Its not really doing anything, it just allows signal to pass thru & thats it, its like having a straight connection from lnb to the receiver.
1.0 or 2.0 ?
It has been asked which is better, a 1.0 or 2.0 switch? It makes no difference.
2.0 means it has 1.0 & 2.0 software. 2.0 is for two-way, & that part is not used by FTAs in North America.
No matter if you use a 1.0 or a 2.0, set your reciever to 1.0
Frying a Switch ....
User error is the most common cause (not shutting off power to the unit), a short in cables or connectors will also fry a switch.
A properly handled switch does not burn up that often.
Always keep a few spares, you don't want to wait a week on a replacement.
Another thing, you have heard that switches that come with the receiver don't last. Thats mostly bull.
The biggest part of new recievers are bought by noobs, its their first receiver, they get in a hurry, don't read instructions & burn up switches. lol
Yes, diseqc switches do come bad right out of the box, it seems to be more frequent than it use to be.
My opinion again:
I think that when ppl return a bad switch, the sellers just ship it to someone else. Sooner or later someone won't bother to send it back & they are done with it.
