DN LNB's and Switches: Identified!
Here is a guide to help identify your LNB's and switches. It also explains the uses for each, the way to set up switches, etc. Really good read.
Switch cascading.
This is the area most people have problems with, contrary to what can be found out there these are the ONLY cascades that work.
Multiple SW-21s on one IRD will NOT work. NEVER. PERIOD. NADA.NOT GONNA HAPPEN. BS!!
The reason is simple. The switches themseleves are serialy controled passive devices, the IRD sends commands down the coax, and the switches respond to them. Each type of switch uses its own set of commands, so if your using 2 different types of switches, IE a SW21 and a SW42, the IRD can control each switch indepenantly of the other, allowing access to all the switches ports. If you have 2 SW-21s connected to a single IRD, the IRD can never get the 2 switches to be on different ports, they will both respond to all commands sent down by the IRD, never allowing you access to all satelites. TOTAL BS !! If you hook up 2 sw21s, your system will work somewhat, but you will never have full access to all the satlites you have connected. SO again, let me repeat. Multiple SW-21s on one IRD will NOT work. NEVER. PERIOD.NADA.NOT GONNA HAPPEN. "
I personally know of many 2 deep cascades of DN and no-name SW21's actually connected and working for 3 sats connecting 3 Dual or Single Legacy LNB's into one IRD - with FULL access!! On 100 ft runs to boot!!
What the heck does this guy think that a Legacy Twin and a Legacy Dual connected with 2 SW21's to 2 IRD's is??
Functionally, it's exactly the same as 4 SW21's from 3 Legacy Dual LNB's to 2 IRD's is. Just more external switches.
If anyone cares to illuminate me as to something that I have missed or misunderstood, then please let me know, otherwise I will offer to edit the Acrobat file and insert the correct information. and have it re-posted with the amendment.
This is one of the best guides I've seen in a long time, however, this one mistake needs to be cleared up - or I need to re- learn something that I already know very well - NOT!!!"
Thanks R2 for picking up on this.
